The Karnataka Maternity Benefit Rules,1966

This Act regulates the employment of women in certain establishments for a certain period after child birth and provides maternity and other benefits to the woman employee. As per the Act, no employer shall knowingly employ a woman who has just delivered or no woman shall work in any establishment during the six weeks immediately following the day of her delivery or miscarriage. The benefit consists of payment of 12 weeks paid holidays (six weeks prenatala and six weeks postnatal).

Compliances

Applicability

  • Applies to factories, mines, plantations, and other establishments wherein persons are employed for exhibition of equestrian, acrobatic, and other performances.
  • Other establishments & shops where 10 or more persons are employed on any day of the preceding 12 months.  
  • All private hospitals, nursing homes, and dispensaries and also private schools and other educational institutions in Karnataka.  
  • Other benefits provided under this Act are: medical bonus, leave with wages before and after delivery and for miscarriage, nursing breaks, etc.
